Crowns & BridgesCrowns & Bridges
Photograph of Crowns & Bridges What: Porcelain crowns and bridges are used to restore worn down, broken teeth. Other options are dental implants and partial or complete dentures.

Why: Modern crowns and bridges are fabricated so they look just like real teeth. Crowns are often required following a root canal procedure.

How: Modern aesthetic crowns are molecularly bonded to teeth, not cemented like metal-based crowns. Bridges are also made from porcelain, with sophisticated molding techniques used to emulate the missing teeth.

Benefits/Challenges: Because crowns are all porcelain, you won’t see a darkened line near your gum line, which is indicative of a metal crown. Bridge users will be able to remove their partial dentures for good, replacing it with a more natural looking alternative.
Gum Disease TreatmentGum Disease Treatment   Back to Top
Gum Disease Treatment What: Gum disease starts out as gingivitis, which is characterized by inflammation and swollen, reddish gum tissue that may bleed easily when touched or brushed.

Why: As soon as you notice the symptoms noted above, it’s important to visit Dr. Aghaloo to start treatment. Untreated, gingivitis can lead to chronic periodontal disease and affect the stability of your teeth.

How: Gum disease treatments will vary based on the severity of the situation. They include thorough cleanings, prescription rinses and surgical procedures if the situation has gone on for a long time.

Benefits/Challenges: Gum disease is a condition that is affected greatly by your personal dental hygiene, so you can do yourself a big favor by regularly brushing and flossing. You may also be predisposed to this condition, so Dr. Aghaloo may suggest more request visits to the hygienist.
Gum line ReshapingGum Line Reshaping   Back to Top
Gum Line Reshaping What: The gum line, and the bone just below it, can be lowered to change the appearance of your smile.

Why: An uneven gum line can be distracting, and sometimes teeth are quite small relative to the gum tissue, which results is an unattractive "gummy" smile.

How: Gum line reshaping is gently done using a laser, which you are under a local anesthetic. It is also often necessary to reduce the bone tissue under the teeth in a subsequent procedure.

Benefits/Challenges: By creating a more even gum line, your smile is significantly enhanced. This procedure results in a healthy and more youthful appearance.
Cosmetic DenturesCosmetic Dentures   Back to Top
Cosmetic Dentures What: Cosmetic dentures are one alternative to replace lost or missing teeth. They are an easily removable replacement fashioned to look like natural teeth. (Implants and bridges are other possibilities.)

Why: No one wants to walk around with missing teeth. Dentures, which are made of resins and porcelain, provide you with a natural looking smile and require no surgical procedures.

How: Dr. Aghaloo will fashion your dentures after taking a mold of your mouth. Neuromuscularly fit dentures are the latest technology; they cost more than their traditional counterparts, but are more carefully fitted to your mouth.

Benefits/Challenges: Full dentures typically last from 10 to 15 years. While denture technology has advanced tremendously from the days when denture wearers needed to stay away from foods like corn on the cob and apples, this solution is not a permanent fix, like a tooth implant.
White FillingsWhite Fillings   Back to Top
White Fillings What: White fillings are the modern, non-metal, healthier alternative to silver mercury fillings, the old standard.

Why: In addition to being more appealing from a cosmetic standpoint, white fillings also benefit patients because minimal removal of the tooth structure is needed to use them. (Metal fillings need more space to be "plugged in.")

How: White fillings (composite resin restorations) are molecularly bonded, creating a fusion of nature and advanced material.

Benefits/Challenges: Dr. Aghaloo can arrange a schedule to replace any metal fillings you may have in your teeth with white fillings. Over the years, metal fillings will wear down, and they may eventually seep into teeth, creating a health hazard.
Dental ImplantsDental Implants   Back to Top
Dental Implants What: Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are placed into your jaw to hold replacement teeth. Implant technology offers a permanent tooth replacement solution and Dr. Aghaloo provides complete implant services in an in-office dental implant center. He can correct or re-do implants done elsewhere and offer second opinions for those considering teeth implants.

Why: Implants are suggested in cases when the patient does not want to use a bridge to replace a missing tooth or teeth. Implant dentistry results in teeth that look and feel much more like natural teeth than dentures.

How: Screws, cylinders or blades are surgically placed into the jawbone. Each holds one or more prosthetic teeth. The entire process can take from months to more than a year, depending on your bone density.

Benefits/Challenges: Dental implants look and feel so natural that you may forget you ever lost a tooth. You’ll be able to smile, speak and eat with comfort and confidence. Under proper conditions, which include diligent patient maintenance, implants can last a lifetime. Long-term studies continue to show improving success rates for implants, although there are patients who will not be suitable candidates for this procedure.
TMJ TreatmentTMJ Treatment   Back to Top
TMJ Treatment What: Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Syndrome is not a disease, but a simultaneous occurrence of a number of problems associated with the jawbone, nerves and chewing muscles. In addition to being painful, it can result in headaches and other maladies traditionally not associated with a dental issue.

Why: Receiving treatment for TMJ Syndrome can alleviate problems that have plagued you for some time, including headaches. If your situation is untreated, it’s possible for it to worsen and get to a point where surgery is your only option.

How: Dr. Aghaloo uses his specialized training in assessing and treating TMJ syndrome. He begins with a headache consultation, during which he can learn about your symptoms, and then completes an examination that includes cranial nerve testing, a multi-plane head and neck range of motion study, and specific orthopedic and neurological tests. Once he determines the cause of your headaches, he will structure a treatment plan to address it.
